What is E.164?

E.164 is an internationally-recognized standard phone number format that will help to ensure the deliverability of calls by ensuring that each device on the PSTN has a globally unique number.

E.164 numbers are formatted [+] [country code] [subscriber number including area code] and can have a maximum of fifteen digits.

Please note that there should be no spaces when adding the number as a contact. The image below is meant to breakdown the components that should be included.

E.164 phone number formatting requires the following:

  1. A + (plus) sign
  2. International Country Calling code
  3. Local Area code
  4. Local Phone number

Ex: +15555555

When calling from a mobile or landline, international dialing rules can vary depending on the caller's location and the call destination.
